Keewatin Steamer : The "Keewatin" was built in Scotland over 100 years ago. She has done service in Nova Scotia and has been moored in Saugatuck, MI (Lake Michigan). She is currently being towed, by tug, up Lake Michigan, around to Lake Huron and down to Port McNicholl, Ontario, located at the bottom of Georgian Bay. Currently, she is spending a few days in Mackinac City, where she is berthed at the "State Dock" (Old Train Ferry Dock). She was still there this morning (6/10) when I returned to Mackinac City. I was told by someone who was also looking at her, that she may be here, for a few more days, untiil her new berth is properly prepared and ready for her arrival.. I was also told that this will be her final home, and that her renovation will include a restaurant and a theater.

Your Bio

Gretchen Dorian was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up sailing on Lake St. Clair.
She graduated in Photography from the Paier College of Art, Hamden, CT.

Gretchen specializes in boat photography, whether sail or power, on water or ice!
Her photographs have been published in Wooden Boat Magazine, ESPN Magazine, SAIL Magazine, Sailing World Magazine, Lakeland Boating Magazine and Outside Bozeman Magazine.

Online publications include the Wall Street Journal, Sailing Scuttlebutt and Sailing Anarchy and Seahorse of the UK.

Her photographs have been exhibited at the Midland Center for the Arts, Midland MI; Scarab Club, Detroit, MI'; Dennos Museum, Traverse City, MI; Prague Art Museum, Czech Republic and Crooked Tree Arts Center, Petoskey, MI. Her photos have won numerous awards including publication in the 2012 Best of Photography Annual and also published in the PDN - 2012 Sports Issue.


Many private organizations have used her photos for their member publications, these include: Bayview Yacht Club (Detroit, MI), Grosse Pointe Yacht Club (Grosse Pte., MI), The International DN Ice Yacht Racing Association (IDNIYRA )- Annual Roster, and IDNIYRA Quarterly Publication - Runner Tracks as well as the 2012/13 DN Netherlands Annual Roster.

Gretchen recently returned from an adventure traveling to Irkutsk, Siberia | Lake Baikal to photograph the 2012 Russian Championship for DN & Ice Opti Iceboats.
